Welcome to Sunshine and Rainbows Learning Center!

Welcome to Sunshine and Rainbows Learning Center! The Sunshine and Rainbows Learning Center is an extension of early learners of the Joliet Park District. The preschool program has been in existence for over 50 years. The Learning Center has openings for students in 3-day, 4-day, and 5-day programs in the morning or afternoon at the Kathy Green Multi-Purpose Center.

The Early Childhood Classroom

The Sunshine and Rainbows Learning Center follows the Illinois Early Childhood Standards and Benchmarks. We teach children holistically and as individuals in a caring environment. In the classroom many different opportunities for learning are provided using center-based exploration, sensory tubs, developmentally appropriate literacy and math lessons, props, and manipulative's.

Family Involvement & Community Events

We also include the family in many events. We have several music presentations throughout the school year. All classrooms, according to the Early Learning Standards, are involved in the following activities: Family Picnic, Grandparent's Dance, Super Heroes, and Bicycle Rodeo. These are just a few of the events held during the school year. We also take part in community outreach programs to help teach caring, sharing, and giving.

In addition, each classroom has physical education and music instruction. Our Learning Center uses the "Handwriting Without Tears" method for teaching pre-writing and printing skills. Computer time is also available to reinforce colors, shapes, patterns, and letter recognition through the use of the mouse and keyboard.

Registration Information

At the time of registration, you will need (no exceptions):

• A completed registration form.
• Proof of residency (current utility bill/RDC) to pay resident rates.
• The first payment (non-refundable, non-transferable) out   of the 9 payments. This payment will be applied to the preschool   tuition and holds your child's spot in our preschool program.
• A $40 graduation fee for all 4-year old classes
• NO EFT WILL BE FILLED OUT AT THIS TIME, ONLY THE FIRST PAYMENT WILL BE TAKEN.
• There will be a total of 9 payments. The 1st payment is made at registration. The remaining 8 payments are spread equally over an 8-month period (September-April).

The following items will need to be turned in at the August 2024 Parent Orientation:

• Copy of county-recorded birth certificate
• Credit or debit card information for the automatic monthlt
• electronic funds transfer (EFT), even if payment is made in full at the time of registration, it can be marked “Paid in Full” on the form. An electronic funds transfer form must be completed.
• $25 fee will be charged for any declined cards.
• The date for your child's drop off day will be August 25. The time will be announced for each age group/class. This will also be Parent Orientation and Information Meeting.

Once the registration forms are available you will receive one via email. Please fill out the registration form prior to arriving at the Kathy Green Multi-Purpose Center Front Desk. If you email back the electronic registration form, Miss Lavon or Miss Karen can complete your registration over the phone & take payment. No registration is available on the weekends.
